THE PREACHER
With such zeal I was called “The Preacher” and “Little John the Baptist”. I was hungry for the word of God. I read my Bible everyday! Studying verses and reading the promises given to us. I was intrigued by men and women of Faith in the Bible.
For example, Moses. He was called by God to lead the nation of Israel out of bondage to a land flowing with milk and honey. “FREEDOM” was the theme of this story. Seeing their struggles that led to victory should give us hope. All things are possible, never give up! Funny how those words would redeem me later in life.Another example was David. He was a man after God’s own heart. Even though he was instrumental in displacing the Giant who taunted the nation of Israel and was anointed by God as their King years later, he sinned against God many times. Yet, it was through his lineage Jesus was born.
How often do we feel inadequate to move forward in life because of our insecurities? These heroes of the bible and many more were not perfect, so what kept them going? It was a personal relationship! They knew deep within their heart of hearts it was not about them but about HIM! He (God) gives us strength, His mercy endures forever! It’s through Him and by Him we live and move and have our being! Every opportunity I was given to share the gospel message I was there to present it. I was not afraid to talk about Jesus and who He was. I was confident in my redemption and eternal home in heaven and desired everyone to meet me there one day.
Spreading the message back then was easy. Why? you may ask? I was not afraid of rejection. The simple act of Faith was easy to grasp and understand back then, I wasn’t clouded by the world and the confusion of different doctrinal beliefs. I knew one thing and one thing only, Jesus LOVES me! Again, this was the message I knew and could share without a second thought.
Today we have taken this simple message and made it more complicated than it needs to be. WE add more to the simple truth and in turn those who hear the message turn away. It’s not complicated. John was at the Jordan River and spoke one simple message, “Repent and Believe”! That’s it, nothing more or less. Maybe we should try the same message today, what do you think?
